These little bird-whistles are fashioned after those used in the 18th century, and are made of fine porcelain. Fill the body with a bit of water, then blow gently upon the end, and you will hear a pleasant warble much like a small songbird. Children take to them at once, and many an adult cannot resist trying a tune as well.
In the potters’ shops of the past, an apprentice was expected to shape a full thousand of these before he might rise to the next stage of his trade. To ease the tedium, they often formed birds of many sorts, each with its own character and charm.
A simple, cheerful toy for camp or home, and quite true to the period.
